The country of Belize has in place COVID restrictions and protocols that serve to protect our guests and our people. This restrictions and protocols change from time to time and are constantly being updated. Contact Seascape Villas office via phone or e-mail to get up to date information on the COVID protective protocols currently in place.
US and other jurisdictions require negative COVID test prior to departure from Belize. We use a service that, by appointment, will come to the Villa to perform the required COVID test and provide a report on the spot. The service is at no extra charge and is performed by trained medical professionals.
All international flights arrive at PGIA (Philip Goldson International Airport (BZE)). From here there are two primary means of continuing on to the island. The fastest is to take a 15-minute commuter flight on one of the local airlines; Tropic Air (https://www.tropicair.com) or Maya Island Air (https://www.mayaislandair.com). Seascape Villas Concierge can book your flights if you let us know your international arrival time in Belize. The other method is via Water Taxi, San Pedro Belize Express. This requires a taxi ride to Belize City Water Taxi Terminal and catching one of the ferries. This is a hour and half trip to the Caye.
There is no need to convert your US dollars to Belize currency. US dollars are freely used throughout the economy at the exchange rate of 2 Belize dollars for every 1 US dollar. Shops and vendors make no distinction between the currency and always keep to the 2 for 1 exchange.
Belize is the only country in Central America that uses English as its official language. Spanish is widely spoken in Belize and on the island, visitors should have no problem with communicating. Most Belizeans speak a version of English called “Kreol’ that may be a little difficult to understand at first but will grow on you after a while. Belize has other languages that are regional and fairly common, reflective of our many diverse culture, a short sample are: Garifuna: A hybrid language spoken by the Caribs who are descended from the Carib Indians and African slaves, Mayan: we have 3 Mayan tribes here in Belize and each have their own dialect of the Mayan language, Spanish of course, Mennonite: who speak a German-Dutch language and as a community form a large part of Belize agricultural industry and many other languages from members of our diverse community, Chinese, Hindi, Urdu among others.
The preferred mode of transport for visitors and local is the Golf Cart. They handle the roads very well and are adapted to island driving. On the island they are considered licensed motor vehicle so a licensed driver is required to operate a cart on the roads. There are many local cart rental agencies and our Concierge can book a cart for your trip and have it ready prior to your arrival. Rates are by the day, week or longer and carts are available in 4 and 6 seater versions.
